"The Praised One" Poetry Contest is Insha Allah (God willing), the first of many competitions in poetry among our young Muslims about the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Northstar's intention behind the Contest is to motivate our young Muslims to write about our Beloved Prophet (pbuh), and join his beautiful heart and mind with theirs in a healthy competition.

Writing poems has always been a part of our tradition. At the time of the Prophet (pbuh), there was a special minbar appointed in the masjid only for poetry in praise of him (pbuh). Some of the Sahaba (companions of the Prophet) had the honor of being called the "Poets of the Prophet". Among them are: Hasan bin Thabit, Kaab bin Zuhayr and Abdullah bin Rawaha.

Anas, (may God be pleased with him), narrates that the Prophet (pbuh), was walking down one of the streets of Madina and passed by group of young girls who were beating drums and singing:

"We are young girls from the tribe of Najjar
What a great neighbor Muhammad is!"

Imagine! Even this simple praise earned the love of the greatest of human beings, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). Insha Allah, participants will also earn this love by writing a poem in praise of him (pbuh).

Registration

This Competition is for ages 7 to 12 and winners are awarded a Trophy and Certificate signed by the Judges. Each year the contest has a new Theme. Details are usually announced in January, and the competition closes submission around March or April. Check the website in the beginning of the year for this year's Theme and Entry information.
