Shaykh Jihad Hashim Brown is trained in Islamic legal theory, theology, and the philosophy of religion. He is currently serving as an academic research consultant in Abu Dhabi, UAE. After receiving degrees in Psychology and Near East Studies from Rutgers University, New Jersey, he went on to pursue Islamic Studies with prominent religious authorities in Syria and Morocco. He holds an advanced graduate degree from the University of Cambridge in Philosophical Theology. He has worked extensively with Muslim communities in the United States and Europe and is regularly consulted by governments and institutions in the West and the Middle East on culture and international relations. He travels widely, teaching and lecturing in the service of engaging classical jurisprudence and theology with the contemporary age, and appears frequently on numerous satellite television programs in the Middle East, including the BBC and CNN.


Northstar School is a K-8th grade Islamic school in the San Francisco Bay Area. Founded in 2002, Northstar has grown from a student body of 7 students, to one of over 130 diverse and eager, young Muslim learners. Northstar has earned a reputation as a pioneer and role model in Islamic schooling, employing a range of cutting edge and time-tested educational methods.  With a dynamic curriculum that integrates classical Islamic sciences with a first-rate academic program, Northstar aims to nurture the “mind, body, and spirit” of its children.
